Therapy for Anxiety

Is anxiety taking over your life? Does it feel like you can’t control it no matter how hard you try? Have you already tried therapy but found it ineffective? Are you tired of simply coping with anxiety and ready to tackle the underlying issue.

Anxiety can look like:

  • Nervousness, restlessness, or being tense
  • Feelings of danger, panic, or dread
  • Rapid breathing or hyperventilation
  • Increased or heavy sweating
  • Trembling or muscle twitching
  • Weakness or lethargy
  • Difficulty focusing or thinking clearly about anything other than the thing you’re worried about
  • Insomnia
  • Obsessional thinking and rumination
  • Anxiety surrounding a particular life event or experience that has occurred in the past; a sign of post-traumatic stress disorder

Symptoms are merely a manifestation of a deeper conflict that can be uncovered and explored in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Oftentimes, I find that anxious thoughts can be our minds way of protecting us from uncomfortable feelings. And while this can work at first, the unprocessed feelings build up over time in our bodies and interfere with our lives. Our work togehter will take a step away from symptoms to access and understand the feelings underneath.
